OpenAI has unveiled GPT-5.4-Cyber, a specialised frontier model purpose-built for cybersecurity defence — the company’s direct competitive response to Anthropic’s restricted-release Claude Mythos Preview, which has been available only to a handful of enterprise partners since late March.
What GPT-5.4-Cyber does
OpenAI describes GPT-5.4-Cyber as a model optimised for autonomous threat detection, vulnerability triage, and red-team simulation. Specifically, the model is trained to ingest live SIEM telemetry, propose containment actions, generate patch-level code fixes, and execute supervised red-team exercises against a defender’s own infrastructure. The model will be offered through a tiered enterprise contract with a minimum annual commitment in the mid seven figures.
The competitive context
Anthropic’s Claude Mythos Preview has been restricted to Amazon, Apple, Cisco, Google, JPMorgan Chase, and Microsoft specifically for cybersecurity defence use cases — the company determined it was too dangerous to release publicly. GPT-5.4-Cyber is OpenAI’s answer. Unlike Mythos, it will be available to a much broader enterprise market — though still with know-your-customer gating and no open API access.
Why it matters
Cybersecurity has become the first enterprise AI category where the frontier labs are explicitly competing on dangerous-capability access, rather than general-purpose benchmarks. The logic is straightforward: defenders need models that can reason about offensive techniques. That same reasoning, in the wrong hands, is catastrophic. Both OpenAI and Anthropic are now effectively running private, invitation-only frontier deployments for the Fortune 500 — while the public-facing models remain capped for safety reasons.
The pricing signal
A mid-seven-figure floor per customer implies OpenAI expects a few hundred enterprise buyers, not a mass market. That is a different revenue shape than ChatGPT — lower volume, far higher per-account value — and it aligns with the $280 billion 2030 revenue target the company has communicated to IPO investors.
