Microsoft released Copilot Studio 3.0 on Friday — its most significant AI platform update since integrating OpenAI’s models in 2023 — headlined by autonomous agents capable of executing complex, multi-step business workflows without human approval at each step.
The release comes as Microsoft reported Q3 fiscal 2026 results: total cloud revenue of $42.4 billion (up 24% YoY) and Azure AI revenue growth of 67 percent year-on-year. Intelligent cloud is now Microsoft’s largest and fastest-growing segment.
What’s New in Copilot Studio 3.0
- Autonomous agents: Deploy AI agents that monitor conditions, make decisions, and take actions across Microsoft 365, Dynamics 365, and third-party systems without per-step human sign-off
- Real-time voice collaboration: AI meeting facilitation in Teams with live transcription, action-item capture, and instant document generation
- GitHub Copilot Enterprise: Expanded to 500,000 enterprise developers, with code review, security scanning, and architecture recommendation capabilities
- Healthcare model: A new domain-specific model trained on de-identified clinical data for patient documentation and diagnostic support
Nadella’s Vision
CEO Satya Nadella described the update as a fundamental shift: “Every Microsoft product is now, fundamentally, an AI product.” He said the company’s goal is for AI to account for 30 percent of all code written at customer organisations by end of 2027.
Investors responded positively — Microsoft shares rose 4.2 percent on the day, adding $120 billion in market capitalisation.
