Anthropic Launches Project Glasswing: Big Tech Giants Unite to Use AI Against Cybersecurity Threats

Anthropic has launched Project Glasswing, a landmark cybersecurity initiative that brings together some of the world’s most powerful technology companies — including Amazon, Apple, Google, Microsoft, and Nvidia — with a shared mission: use artificial intelligence to identify and fix high-severity software vulnerabilities before malicious actors can exploit them.

What Is Project Glasswing?

Project Glasswing represents one of the most ambitious AI-for-security initiatives ever assembled. The project is focused on defensive cybersecurity — specifically using Claude and related AI systems to scan vast codebases and infrastructure for vulnerabilities that human security teams would struggle to find at speed and scale.

The initiative is part of Anthropic’s broader strategy of steering advanced AI capabilities toward safety-critical applications. As AI models become increasingly capable of writing, reading, and reasoning about code, their application to cybersecurity — both offensive and defensive — has become one of the most consequential frontiers in the field.

Why It Matters Now

The timing of Project Glasswing’s launch coincides with a period of escalating cyber threats globally. The FBI reported that Americans lost a record $11.36 billion to cryptocurrency and AI-assisted scams in 2025 alone — a 22% increase from 2024. Southeast Asian criminal organisations, many using forced labour in Cambodia, Laos, and Burma, have industrialised cybercrime at a scale that overwhelms traditional security responses.

Meanwhile, state-sponsored cyber operations have grown in frequency and sophistication. AI-powered vulnerability scanning offers a potential step-change in defenders’ ability to stay ahead of attackers — but only if deployed systematically and at scale, which is precisely what Project Glasswing aims to do.

The Partnership Structure

Each partner in Project Glasswing contributes distinct capabilities. Amazon provides cloud infrastructure. Apple and Microsoft contribute vast enterprise software ecosystems and security expertise. Google brings search and infrastructure security knowledge. Nvidia contributes GPU compute essential for running inference at the scale required for continuous vulnerability monitoring.

Anthropic will serve as the AI provider and convener, with Claude models running the core vulnerability detection and analysis workflows. The project will initially focus on identifying critical-severity vulnerabilities in widely deployed open-source software — infrastructure that underpins much of the global digital economy.
