ECG Releases April 23 Dumsor Schedule — Tema, Central and Accra West Hit by Day-Long Power Cuts

The Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) has announced an extensive network of planned maintenance outages across three regions on Thursday, April 23, 2026. Engineers will carry out critical infrastructure upgrades that will temporarily disrupt power supply to dozens of communities in the Tema, Central and Accra West regions.

When and Why

All affected regions lose power at 9:00 a.m., with restoration varying by location depending on the scope of works. ECG says the maintenance aims to enhance service reliability and strengthen the stability of the national grid. The announcement follows a public apology earlier this week from ECG manager Kwame Kpekpena over recurring unplanned outages.

Tema Region — 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.

Affected areas include Motorway Axle Bridge, Nutri Foods, DPS, Toyota Sales Office, Abattoir, KICC, Frosty Bite, Cocobod Warehouse, First Bank at Ashaiman, Lashibi, Community 19 Annex and Klagon.

Central Region — 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.

Communities to be affected include Afrangua Town, Mpeseduadze, Obokor, Jedi, Anoky, Nananom, New Nkusukum, Mankessim, Bafikrom and MSTS Estates.

Accra West Region — 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

Affected communities: Ablekuma Tigo Pole, Ablekuma Curve, Canary, Adoagyiri Zongo, Anyaa Deeper Life, Gbawe Bulemin, Gonse, Joma, Agbozume and Darkuman Kokompe.

What Customers Should Do

ECG is advising customers in listed areas to unplug sensitive appliances, plan for alternative water storage, and treat all downed lines as live. Businesses in affected industrial clusters around Tema have been asked to coordinate generator rotation where possible to reduce diesel consumption during the peak hours of the outage window.
